GEARING FOR TRACK RACING
The following are recommended gear ratios for racing on a 333 1/3 meter track. Select a gear that is between 86-92 inches. Too large a gear and the rider will not be able to get the bike moving quickly enough, when opponents make sudden moves. Too small a gear and you will be left spinning the gear, unable to cover distance quickly enough. Below is a gear chart for your reference.

GENERALITIES ABOUT GEARING
Gearing is highly individual; given everyone's riding style is unique. You and other riders will most likely have different gearing, even though you will be doing similar training drills, exercises and distances, under identical conditions.

SMALLER GEARS HAVE MORE "SNAP", AND QUICKER ACCELERATION
BIGGER GEARS HAVE A HIGHER POTENTIAL "TOP END", BUT TAKE LONGER TO WIND UP

A nice starting point for gearing on a 333 1/3 meter track would be:
    49 X 15 = 88.2" gear
    46 X 14 = 88.7" gear
    42 X 13 = 87.2" gear
